About the Unorganized Areas

Prince of Wales Island (PoW) is largely part of the federally managed Tongass National Forest or state of Alaska managed lands.  Though there are organized cities and villages, there are homes, lots, and commercial enterprises in largely unorganized areas.

These unorganized areas include smaller islands accessible from the larger PoW Island such as Marble Island, or Causiusco. Other unorganized areas are nestled on remote areas of PoW.

These unorganized areas are the vestiges of past or current fishing, mining, or logging ventures.
