Craig is the largest city on PoW with a population of approximately 1,100. It offers the greatest number and diversity of services of any community on the Island. Craig is located on the west side of PoW. Paved roads and city services (water, refuse, etc.) are available in the community. Craig is a little over 30 miles from Hollis and less than 10 miles from Klawock. Like most PoW communities, there are many opportunities nearby for outdoor recreation (beachcombing, hiking trails, fishing, boating, hunting, etc.). Craig also offers a community swimming pool and gym.
Craig has the following services: fuel, groceries, ATM (cash machine), school, clinic, pharmacy, dentist, city police department, volunteer fire department, emergency medical services (EMS), boat launch/public floats, hardware store, churches, ferry terminal, flights (floatplane), grocery store, restaurant, and library, among others. Craig is connected to other PoW communities by a paved road system and to scheduled daily Inter Island Ferry (IFA) service to Ketchikan at the Hollis terminal). The Alaska State Trooper’s PoW post, Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, have offices in Craig. One of the two PoW US Forest Service Ranger Stations is located in Craig.
